Chapter 1: The Glitch (The Blackout Protocol)

Chapter 1: The Glitch

The hum of ceiling fans mixed with the faint clicking of keyboards in the computer lab at Starlight Academy, Dhaka. Seventeen-year-old Arman Rahman sat hunched over his workstation, his fingers flying across the keys. To anyone else, the school’s network looked normal—students browsing, teachers uploading assignments—but Arman’s trained eyes caught something unusual.

“Why is the packet loss spiking?” he muttered, adjusting his glasses. His screen showed a string of anomalies—encrypted traffic that didn’t belong to the school’s servers.

Riya, his best friend since childhood, leaned over from the next desk. “You’re mumbling again. What’s wrong this time? Another bug in the system?”

Arman shook his head. “Not a bug. Someone’s tunneling through our network. Look at this.” He pointed to a string of code scrolling across his monitor.

Riya frowned. “That doesn’t look like anything I’ve seen in class.”

Before Arman could explain, a voice cut through the lab. “Or maybe you’re just imagining things again.” It was Zara, his long-time rival. She stood with her arms crossed, smirking. “You think every glitch is some grand conspiracy.”

Arman shot her a look. “This isn’t a glitch. It’s deliberate. Whoever’s behind it knows what they’re doing.”

Zara raised an eyebrow, intrigued despite herself. “Fine. Prove it.”

Arman tapped a few keys, isolating the suspicious traffic. The data packets were encrypted with a cipher far beyond what any student—or teacher—should be using. His pulse quickened.

“This isn’t school-level encryption,” he said quietly. “This is military-grade.”

Riya’s eyes widened. “Military? Here? Why would anyone target our school?”

Before Arman could answer, the lights flickered. The hum of the fans stuttered. Then, with a sharp click, the entire lab plunged into darkness.

Gasps filled the room. Someone cursed under their breath.

Arman’s laptop screen glowed faintly, powered by its battery. Across the display, a message appeared in stark white letters:

“BLACK CIRCUIT IS WATCHING.”

The room fell silent. Riya clutched Arman’s arm. Zara’s smirk vanished. And Arman, heart pounding, realized this was no ordinary glitch.

It was the beginning of something far bigger.
