Chapter 5: The Rivalry Sparks

Chapter 5: The Rivalry Sparks

The blackout had left its mark. Even with power restored, the tension between the four teens lingered. That afternoon, Arman and Zara stayed behind in the robotics lab, determined to push further into the encrypted files.

Arman hunched over the terminal, his fingers moving quickly. Zara stood close, her arms folded, eyes sharp on the scrolling code.

“You’re brute-forcing the cipher,” she said, her tone clipped. “That’s reckless. You’ll waste hours.”

Arman didn’t look up. “It’s the fastest way. We don’t have time for elegance.”

Zara stepped closer, her voice firm. “Fast doesn’t mean effective. You’ll hit a wall. You need pattern recognition, not brute force.”

Arman finally turned, irritation flashing in his eyes. “And what do you suggest? Sitting around waiting for inspiration? We’re racing against people who want to shut down the city.”

Zara leaned in, refusing to back down. “I suggest thinking smarter. You’re brilliant, Arman, but you act like you’re the only one who can solve this. You’re not.”

The words hung heavy. The air between them was charged, their argument sharp but strangely magnetic.

Arman stood, closing the distance. “You think you’re smarter than me?”

Zara’s gaze didn’t waver. “No. I think we’re smarter together. But you’re too stubborn to admit it.”

The tension shifted. Anger gave way to something else—an energy neither of them could deny.

Arman’s voice softened. “You really think we can crack this together?”

Zara’s lips curved into a faint smile. “I know we can.”

The silence stretched, charged. Then, suddenly, Arman leaned in. Zara didn’t pull away. Their lips met in a fierce, unexpected kiss.

At that exact moment, the door creaked open.

Riya stepped inside, carrying her notebook. She froze, eyes widening as she saw Arman and Zara locked together.

The notebook slipped from her hands, hitting the floor with a dull thud.
